Safety
Last updated September 4, 2026
Anonymous should mean safer storytelling, not consequence-free posting. Spill Sisters uses privacy reminders, reporting tools, account controls, moderation, and security safeguards to reduce harm, but no online community can remove every risk.
On this page
Spill Sisters is not a crisis line. If you or someone else may be in immediate danger, contact local emergency services now.
Spill Sisters is not an emergency service
Reports and support emails are not monitored as a live crisis line. If you or someone else may be in immediate danger, call local emergency services or go to the nearest emergency department.
If you are in Canada and experiencing thoughts of suicide or worried about someone else, call or text 9-8-8. If safety is at immediate risk, call 9-1-1. If you are elsewhere, use the emergency or crisis service available in your country.
Community advice is not a substitute for medical, mental-health, legal, financial, employment, or other professional care.
Before you post: make it unsearchable
Ask yourself: could a stranger search this? Could a coworker recognize it? Could two harmless details combine to identify someone?
Remove or generalize:
- Names, initials, handles, emails, and phone numbers
- Exact workplaces, schools, organizations, and neighbourhoods
- Addresses, live locations, travel plans, and regular schedules
- Exact dates, ages, rare job titles, and distinctive life events
- Faces, license plates, tattoos, uniforms, badges, mail, and landmarks
- Screenshots, private messages, documents, and metadata
Do not rely on changing a name alone. Change nonessential ages, timing, industry, city size, or relationship details when needed, but do not alter the core facts in a way that falsely accuses someone. More examples in Anonymous story sharing.
Protect yourself, too
- Use a unique password and keep verification codes and reset links private.
- Do not put your real name, contact information, employer, school, or social handles in your bio.
- Think before linking multiple Case Files; a pattern of details can reveal more than one post alone.
- Avoid posting while an event is happening or sharing a live location.
- Assume public content can be copied or screenshotted.
- Review older posts when your circumstances change.
- If someone recognizes you, stop sharing details and use block and report tools.
Safer direct messages
Direct messages are not end-to-end encrypted. Only accept message requests you want, and remember that any participant can copy or screenshot a conversation.
Never send:
- Passwords, verification codes, or reset links
- Banking, payment, tax, or identity-document information
- Your home address, live location, workplace, or routine
- Intimate images or content you cannot safely risk being retained
- Another person's private information
Be cautious if someone pressures you to move off-platform, meet in person, send money, share contact details, or keep a conversation secret. A disappearing-message setting does not prevent screenshots or copies.
Block, disengage, and report
You do not owe anyone a response. Block or disengage when an interaction feels manipulative, invasive, or unsafe.
Report:
- Identifying or private information
- Harassment, threats, hate, stalking, or repeated unwanted contact
- Sexual exploitation, non-consensual intimate content, or any sexual content involving a minor
- Scams, impersonation, credential requests, or malicious links
- Encouragement of self-harm, suicide, violence, or dangerous behaviour
- Calls to find, contact, expose, or retaliate against a real person
Use the in-app report control on the relevant post, comment, profile, or message when possible. Give only the context moderators need. Do not repost harmful content in order to report it.
What moderation can do
Moderators may review reported content with relevant account and safety context. Depending on the situation, Spill Sisters may remove content or media, warn a member, limit features, suspend or ban an account, preserve limited safety records, or contact authorities when required by law or reasonably necessary to address an imminent threat.
Moderation can reduce risk, but it cannot guarantee prevention, immediate review, or a particular outcome. See the Community Guidelines for the full enforcement policy.
If your account may be compromised
Change your password immediately if you still have access. Do not share any verification code or reset link. Email support@spillsisters.com from the address connected to your account and include your alias plus a short description of what happened.
If a post identifies you
Use the in-app report tool and choose the privacy or safety reason that best fits. If you cannot report in the app, email support@spillsisters.com with the public link and a brief explanation. Do not send additional sensitive information unless support asks for something necessary to verify or resolve the report.
